She expressed her confidence that her expertise would be instrumental to the success of Britain in promoting and implementing the values of the Commonwealth.

“On this Commonwealth Day, I am thrilled to share that I have been appointed to the International Advisory Board of the Centre for Commonwealth Affairs, UK.

"I look forward to an exciting journey, utilising my international expertise to promote the values and ideals of the Commonwealth," she noted.

Ghati is an alumnus of Columbia University in the United States where she graduated with a Master's Degree. She also has a Diploma in Mass Communication & Public Relations from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, (KIMC).

She formerly worked as a journalist at the East African Standard (later rebranded to the Standard) and also as a communications officer in various non-governmental organisations.

In 2013, Ghati ventured into the world of politics and successfully vied for the Migori Woman Representative position through the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.

She staged her political career on a high in her first term in parliament which saw her register her name on major projects in her constituency.

However, a life-threatening accident in 2014 disrupted her first term in parliament after she lost her ability to walk.

In 2017, Ghati was nominated by the ODM Party as an MP representing persons with disabilities. During her stint as an MP, Ghati also served as the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities Network.
