Kenyans on Wednesday, March 15, debated after the famous storey building at OTC in Nairobi County, which is famous for its green net cover, was finally pulled off after years under construction.

Photos of the building, whose construction was backed by billionaire Victor Maina Ngunjiri, circulated on social media hours after the net was fully removed.

Some city residents also recorded videos of the new development and shared them online.

Below is the new-look OTC building:

The wavy-shaped building with over 8 floors was branded with cream and brown colours with some sections painted white.

A section of Kenyans noted that the building had been used as a reference point for Kenyans visiting the city for the first time.

Online users also wondered how the changes were going to affect them when navigating the CBD even as others expressed optimism about the completion of the building whose renovations had taken years.

"Now that students are almost coming back home from half term, I hope they will not get lost and think that they are in another county," Ndanu Royal commented.

"I am from Mombasa and when I came to Nairobi, I always knew that I arrived in the city after seeing the green net. Now that it has been removed, I will have to wait till the vehicle reaches the stage," Brian Raynold echoed.

The OTC building went viral in recent weeks after photos of a similar building emerged on social media as it was purported that the net had been removed.

However, a fact-check by Kenyans.co.ke established that the purported photos belonged to a building in Uganda.

The building had been under renovation for the last ten years with the delays alluded to a court case between the billionaire and the owner of a Supermarket that was hosted in the building.

Maina is reported to have acquired the building in 2006 and began to take renovations the building.

Differences between the duo emerged after the owner of the Supermarket was asked to vacate the building to allow for the renovation works.
