Veteran TV Journalist Terryanne Chebet on Wednesday, March 15, revealed that she started running her skin care business from a car boot.

Speaking during an interview with the Public Relations Society of Kenya(PRSK), Terryanne narrated that at the time, she targeted other mothers like her who needed the products for their children.

Chebet, a household name in business journalism, started her skincare business Keyara Botanicals as a solution for her daughter who was diagnosed with eczema.

“I started Keyara Botanics from the boot of my car saying that there may be other mothers who want the same products and the same solution for their children,” Terryanne stated.

Teryanne set out to look for skin products that would help cure her daughter's condition but to her disappointment, she could not get organic products in the Kenyan market.

She detailed that the business was since doing well adding that they had recently won an award.

The former Citizen TV business news anchor owed her success to staying consistent and networks who had elevated her.

“I would tell my younger self that she did not have a godfather and she was not from a well-known family but she is gifted those gifts will speak for her,” added Terryanne.

In a past interview in November 2021, she revealed that her company made oils, butter and body scents with cocoa butter sources from Ghana, shea butter from northern Uganda, marula oil from South Africa and Argan oil from Morocco.

She advised women who were looking to start up businesses not to give up and instead fall in the love with the idea, over and over again.

"When times are tough, and there are many such times, we are forced to think and be creative, and only then can we truly grow as individuals and as female business owners," stated the entrepreneur.

The veteran journalist joined  CNBC Africa in January 2023 where she is the East African Correspondent and the Kenyan Business Development Lead.

“I am hoping that over the next couple of years, my work will then be how to get Kenyans to watch the content we create and how to get CNBC into more offices and Commercial places.

“Maybe when that happens I can be promoted into some big role within the region,” added the journalist.

Terrynne started out her career as an actress before working with KBC, CNBC Africa and Citizen TV

After she was fired from Citizen TV, the media personality went on to lead Fanaka TV, a station that covered business, current affairs, sports and entertainment, as a Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

She was also Metropol TV's first General Manager.
