In the year 2006, former Citizen TV business news anchor, Terryanne Chebet, became a mother after she gave birth to her first born daughter. This would be a source of her inspiration to venture into a now lucrative skin care accessories manufacturing company.
Her daughter, who is now a teenager, was diagnosed with eczema, a medical condition where patches of skin become rough and inflamed with blisters. This in turn causes itching and bleeding.
And as any mother would, Teryanne set out to look for skin products that would help cure her daughter's condition. To her disappointment, however, she could not get organic products in the Kenyan market.
It is this deficiency in supply sector that made her realise how huge the gap was and she set to fill it. The idea to create a skin care company came into mind and in 2014, she founded Keyara Organics.
The personal care company makes oils, butters and body scents. One of her dreams is to see her products sold in major outlets in leading Natural Skincare brands.
In its website, Keyara prides itself in producing and packaging natural skincare products that are sourced from Africa's most premium oils.
Chebet sources cocoa butter from Ghana, shea butter from northern Uganda, marula oil from South Africa and Argan oil from Morocco.
On the other hand, coconut oil is sourced from Kenya.
"I want to see us on store shelves in New York and in South Africa, in Casablanca and in Adelaide, in Kinsasha and Toronto, because everyone needs a natural skincare routine," she stated in a previous interview.
The media personality believes that she has changed lives, made a difference and created jobs, through her brand.
She advises women looking to start up businesses not to give up but instead fall in the love with the idea, over and over again.
"When times are tough, and there are many such times, we are forced to think, be creative, and then for sure we can really grow from both a personal perspective and as a woman entrepreneur," she stated.
