Senate Speaker Amason Kingi on Thursday, March 16, approved the removal of Fatuma Dullo as the Whip of the Minority in the Senate.
Speaking during the Communication from the Chair session, Kingi ruled that Azimio had followed due procedure in removing Dullo from office.
"It is my findings that the letter sent to me by the Senate Minority leader met the requirements of standing orders as stipulated under Standing Order No. 23.
"Accordingly, Senator Fatuma Dullo has been validly removed as the Senate Minority Whip and Senator Ledama Ole Kina has been validly elected as Minority Whip," he ruled.
Kingi further confirmed ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the Deputy Whip of the Minority in the Senate.
The Speaker explained that he received a letter from Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo, who informed him that the decision to remove Dullo was reached by 16 Azimio Senators.
In addition, he gave express directions to Madzayo on how to conduct the vacation Dullo from her physical office at the Senate buildings.
"You all await until her return and she will be given time to remove her belongings. Only then will the office be occupied by her successor," Kingi ruled.
The ruling came after a four-week stalemate with Azimio senators accusing the Speaker of allegedly attempting to interfere with the decision of the opposition.
Notably, Senators Sifuna and Ole Kina, who previously led walkouts from the house in protests of a delay in delivering a ruling on the matter, were absent.
Earlier, the Senate Speaker cancelled a planned seating to discuss the debacle surrounding the changes in the Azimio House leadership.
Calls to have Dullo removed from the seat came after she and other members of the Jubilee Party met President William Ruto in State House.
