Police officers were on Friday, March 17 deployed in numbers around Kisumu State Lodge ahead of the planned Azimio la Umoja demonstration scheduled for Monday, March 20.

From photos shared widely, over 40 officers were deployed at the Milimani Estate Road that leads to the State Lodge.

The officers got into various formations as they sought to secure the President's official residence.

At the frontline, some officers have armed with protective gear, and those at the back held wooden maces.

Various roadblocks were erected on the road to ensure that no vehicle or supporter got near the State Lodge.

A lorry was also stationed on the road blocking further movements of motorists.

The security around the State Lodge was beefed up a day after a section of Azimio supporters broke through the initial barrier that was put by the police neat the State Lodge.

However, the supporters were refrained at the gate by the guards. Less than 15 officers were initially deployed to guard the road leading to the State Lodge.

The police were deployed two days before the planned demonstration in Nairobi County on March 20.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga called for peaceful demonstrations.

Notably, he also unlawfully declared March 20 a national holiday to allow their supporters to join them in Nairobi.

According to Azimio, they plan to March to the State House to demonstrate the high cost of living and President William Ruto's administration which they claim is illegitimate.
