Photos of a magnificent mansion being built at Kitengela went viral in mid-March 2023 attracting admiration from future homeowners.

In the photos shared online, the mansion was captured at different stages of construction with the final picture showing the house near completion. Its architectural representation depicted a surreal and model piece of work destined to turn heads in the dusty town.

Amused Kenyans flooded online demanding to know how much it cost the owner to construct such a house in Nairobi or its satellite towns.

Kenyans.co.ke tracked down the company behind the construction and exclusively talked to one of its experts, Johnson Mwangi, who is an architect behind the Kitengela viral mansion.

Mwangi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mosafe Limited, revealed that the company was contracted to undertake the project for a client.

“We are a boutique design and building company that offers excellent expertise in the entire spectrum of construction and real estate.

“Ideally, we are a one-stop shop for everything design and construction,” Mwangi revealed details of the company behind the mansion.

On how much it cost to build the mansion, Mosafe’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Clare Musila confirmed that it was client-friendly.

“The estimated total cost of construction for the Kitengela project was Ksh9 million minus land prices. It is a three-bedroom mansion boasting of 2 ½ bathrooms,” she told Kenyans.co.ke.

On how they had been able to come up with such a design, she explained, “It is because we bring together a highly talented team of consultants and professionals to facilitate the process of designs, as well as qualified and licenced builders to execute the works.”

HassConsult, a real estate company, revealed in a 2023 report that Kenyans were moving from Nairobi suburbs and buying land in satellite towns like Kitengela.

According to the report, Nairobi satellite towns like Athi River, Juja, Kiambu, Kiserian, Kitengela, Limuru, Mlolongo, Ngong and Ongata Rongai, Ruaka, Ruiru, Syokimau, Thika and Tigoni had seen land prices multiply 10-fold between 2007 and 2022.

On why the sharp appreciation, HassConsult cited infrastructure development, affordability and other social amenities as key contributors. An acre in Kitengela is priced at an average price of Ksh14 million according to HassConsult.

Endorsing the HassConsult, Clare Musila revealed that many clients were preferring to move to Nairobi satellite towns.

“We are headquartered at Westlands, Nairobi but we get a lot of clients who are looking for residential or retirement homes at Nairobi’s satellite towns,” she remarked on the changing trend in the real estate industry.
