Digital journalist and former Kiss FM presenter Kalekye Mumo detailed how her decade of experience at the station, shaped her decision to form Kalekye Mumo (KM) Network.

Speaking to KTN Home on Wednesday, March 22, the media personality noted that she declined to extend her stay within the station owing to the differences in contractual agreements.

Kalekye added that she sought to transition to TV at the time and have a feel of a new experience.

"My contract was ending and it was time to renew and everything was not aligning with what would have kept me longer than I was supposed to be there. I did want to leave because I was tired," she stated.

Despite the decision to quit on July 1, 2016, Kalekye stated that her success was catapulted by her experience at the station, especially hosting the Rush Hour show alongside former Homeboyz radio presenter Shaffie Weru.

Five months later, she affirmed that Media Max's K24 TV approached her with an opportunity to host Talk Central - a chance that she embraced.

After three years, she resorted to creating a platform where Kenyans could open up and share stories based on different topics; which birthed KM Network.

"The vision is about different stories in people's lives and different angles of it. I'm big on relationships and being that the author is God, that's where I draw my relationships from. Be it about boy-girl, parents, money."

"When I began content creation, I started with live and uncut and it could span with whatever directions. So, for me, changing lives starts with people sharing their stories and being intimate enough to open up. That's what I'm doing. KM Network itself transitions into producing stories and filming for different people. If your company wants to tell its story, we help you script it," she stated.

Her inaugural project, Live and Uncut, proved to be successful at its onset owing to the positive reactions the show received. Kalekye and her team, however, experienced challenges after the pandemic hit in 2020 forcing them to rely less on traditional media and focus on Instagram Live.

"I did the show for an hour and people inboxed me, wondering why it was too short. At the time, we did the show every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and it was awesome for that period," she noted.

Later on, she created a YouTube channel titled ‘Conversations With Kalekye’, a platform whereby she opens up about her love and dating experiences.
