President William Ruto on Friday, March 24, fired a contractor in charge of a stalled road that remained incomplete for over eight years.

Ruto, who was in Kisii County on a three-day tour, noted that the construction of the road began during former President Uhuru Kenyatta's era. At the time, he served as the Deputy President.

The President disclosed that he had directed Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to get a new contractor and ensure the road is completed.

"That contractor should be out of that road since it has clearly proven difficult to complete it," he directed.

"We will give another contract for the job and a one-year deadline to complete it because the residents need it," Ruto added.

The road in question connects Nyamokumba-Ng'eni-Ragogo-Nyakoe within Kisii County.

Ruto accused the contractor of being lazy and hindering the ease of transportation by the area residents despite using public funds.

Furthermore, Ruto blamed the 2018 handshake between his predecessor and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on the stalled Kihumbu-Kimera-Kiendege road that he initiated.

In addition, Ruto repatriated that the public coffers were empty hinting that the former administration was involved. He affirmed that he will work out ways to finish stalled projects.

The Head of State also unveiled plans to construct an airport to serve residents from Nyamira and Kisii. He directed Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen to liaise with the area leaders and settle on a suitable venue for the project.

"We will construct an airport and ensure it serves the people of Kisii and the neighbouring counties," Ruto added.

The president was in the area for a three-day trip and was accompanied by his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, and other leaders.

He is expected to launch the upgrading of the 33.3-kilometre Gekano-Rigoma-Amabuko road as well as the Nyabohanse-Kumumwamu road and Nyaburu-Oboke Ragwe road among other development projects.
