Ruto Returns to Kisii With Goodies After Truce With Matiang'i

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, on Wednesday, March 22, outlined President William Ruto’s agenda in his upcoming tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties, days after his allies pushed for a truce with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i. 

During a presser at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depot in Kisii Town, Hussein divulged that road and other infrastructural projects will feature heavily in the three-day working tour that will extend to Kuria East and Kuria West constituencies in Migori County. 

Among the projects to headline the tour include a project aimed at upgrading the 33.3 km Gekano-Rigoma-Amabuko Road in Nyamira County. 

In addition, the President will preside over the launch of a project seeking to upgrade the Nyabohanse – Kumumwamu Road and Nyaburu-Oboke-Ragwe roads in Migori county.

President Ruto will also commission the Kegati Water project in Kisii, which is aimed at revamping the water supply in parts of Kisii County and its environs. 

Further, President Ruto will roll out the affordable housing project in Nyamira County as part of the nationwide projects promised by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

According to the statement by Hussein Mohamed, the national government under President Ruto reached out to Nyamira County Government in pursuit of land to construct over 2,000 units. 

Consequently, the two levels of government reached an agreement that will see Nyamira County hand over a 10-acre piece of land to the National Housing Corporation to develop affordable housing units

The government will also distribute subsidised fertiliser to farmers in Nyamira and Kisii counties had of the planting season in most parts of the country.

Addressing the press, Hussein Mohamed stated that distribution aligned with the government's commitment to enhancing food production. 

"On Agriculture, farmers in Kisii and Nyamira counties, are now receiving subsidised fertiliser through the government’s Fertiliser Subsidy program, meant to cushion farmers against the high cost of fertiliser, increase agricultural production and address food insecurity," Hussein stated. 

The announcement came barely two weeks after President Ruto met a host of leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties at State House Nairobi.

Ruto held talks with a delegation of MPs led by Kitutu Masaba MP Daniel Manduku in a met that was widely reported to have focused on finding a truce for the push and pull between the government and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.

Politics of the day are also expected to feature Ruto's visit as he is expected to attend functions, including the homecoming party of Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu. 

A host of leaders elected under the Kenya Kwanza Coalition and appointed government officials from the region are expected to accompany President Ruto on his visit.
