CNN News Anchor Larry Madowo revealed on Thursday, March 30 that he held an extended interview with Nigerian afrobeat singer Davido, formally known as David Adedeji Adeleke.
Larry noted that the interview, which he termed as lengthy and honest, would soon be aired on the African Voices, a programme aired on CNN International.
The anchor added that the interview was Davido’s first since he lost his son in November 2022.
“I caught up with Afrobeats superstar Davido for a lengthy conversation, his first interview since losing his son,” Madowo stated.
When aired, that will mark the second interview Madowo held with the singer after their first interview ended in a heated argument that saw Davido banned from the NTV entertainment show The Trend.
Madowo, who was the host of the show, banned Davido from The Trend in 2015 after he claimed that the singer had behaved erratically.
According to Madowo, Davido showed up late to the interview despite an earlier arrangement between the show and an organiser of an event where Davido was set to perform.
Larry noted in an opinion piece in the Daily Nation at the time that Davido's manager had arrived late and claimed that the singer would be on the show for only 20 minutes.
"During the interview, he was disinterested and rude, almost as if the whole thing deeply irritated him and he would rather have been elsewhere,” the journalist stated.
He further stated that the whole production team, in addition to other guests and viewers of the show, hated how the Nigerian singer behaved
"Most times you manage to pull off that delicate dance and the production team, presenter and guest are all pleased with the outcome.
“Sometimes it all falls apart as it did during the Davido interview, which was equally hated by everyone involved. It takes extra effort to produce something that is monumentally disastrous," Madowo added.
