Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, April 3, documented the resolutions of the Nairobi III Intra-Congolese Consultations after securing a three-week cease-fire in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In a meeting attended by the facilitator of the UN Special Envoy to the Great Lakes Region and observers from Switzerland, the United Kingdom, America, and Belgium, Uhuru confirmed the DRC as the venue for the Nairobi IV meeting.

During the workshop convened in Nairobi, the leaders took stock of all political developments in Eastern DRC since the conclusion of Nairobi III intra-Congolese consultations and agreed to facilitate for the fourth consultations.

Uhuru told the East African Community (EAC) that while Kinsasha was picked as the central point, several other towns were selected for talks to set precedence for the political process.

"The workshop completed the planning for the next stage of the political process, specifically planning for the Nairobi IV multi-venue conference which is intended to take place in the Eastern DRC but anchored in Kinshasa through a national consultation which will initiate the multiple town conferencing processes," read the statement in part.

"The meeting will be anchored in Kinshasa through national consultation which will initiate the multiple-town conferencing process," the letter added.

The former President, who also doubles as the Facilitator of the Nairobi Process, confirmed that the military operations received a boost from the South Sudan People's Defence Force.

He explained that the cease-fire brokered between the FADRC, the M23, and other active armed groups held for three weeks and boosted the realisation of peace in some areas.

"The major armed group M23 has withdrawn from the Western Front of North Kivu; Sake, Mshaki, Neenerp, and Kilolirwe," Uhuru noted.

In addition, the former Kenyan Head of State revealed that the main supply route, the Bunagana-Rutshuru-Kibumba-Goma Road, was secured to facilitate the provision of humanitarian aid to the residents.

The former head of state assured that political and military engagements boosted the restoration of peace.

"These developments also signal that more of the armed groups are now complying to the terms of the Nairobi process, and are, therefore, ever more likely to be all integrated into the political track of the Nairobi process in the future," he wrote.

Kenyatta intimated that the operation was in conjunction with the Luanda process in both political and military tracks as well as humanitarian actions.

In November 2022, he visited the DRC and held discussions with locals and leaders of the conflicting groups to get better understanding of the conflict.
