Residents of Kisa East ward in Kakamega County stormed a police station on Monday, April 3, stealing Ksh4.3 million worth of fertiliser.
The irate mob also torched the house and motorbike of the area chief Walter Obuchere and slaughtered three of his cows.
Police officers at the scene reported that the youth made away with 1,240 bags of fertiliser that had been stored ready for distribution - under the government's subsidy programme.
According to reports, the youth were protesting the murder of Kisa East Ward MCA Stephen Maloba who was stabbed to death on Saturday, April 1.
Speaking to the press after the incident, Obuchere, the area chief, lamented that the youth who destroyed his property and even stoned his home were students.
“The boys who raided my home were very young, some were junior secondary students and others were primary and high school students.
“I don't have a feud with the MCA, he was my brother and we worked with him well. Our work as chiefs is to work with those who have been elected,” the Chief stated.
The officers further noted that they had already recovered 20 bags of fertiliser.
“The investigations are ongoing and the DCI counterparts are doing their part,” an officer stated.
Maloba was attacked and stabbed following a heated confrontation with supporters of Khwisero Member of Parliament Christopher Aseka Wangaya.
Reports indicated that the lawmaker had convened a meeting at the home of one of his supporters near a secondary school and a group of individuals believed to be the supporters of the MP confronted Maloba telling him that he was not welcome at the meeting.
Maloba's death was announced by Kakamega Deputy Governor, Ayub Savula, on Saturday, April 1, during an interdenominational service organised by Farouk Kibet in Malava, Kakamega County.
