UK investigations support officer Caroline Horden on Monday, April 3, detailed how she tracked a Kenyan fugitive in Nairobi after he escaped from the UK while facing sexual assault charges.

Speaking during the conviction of the man 51-year-old in Chelmsford Crown Court, the detective detailed that the fugitive - accused of sexually assaulting underage girls - escaped from the UK while out on bail.

It was revealed that the fugitive escaped from the police radar despite his passport being confiscated.

According to Horden, the 51-year-old used an emergency identity document to flee the UK.

However, his roots were traced back to the country as he went to work in the capital.

Unknown to him, a team of detectives based from the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit set a trap for him on June 17, 2022, when he was arrested.

Consequently, he was extradited to the UK to face his charges of seven sexual assaults.

"The victims have been subjected to an ordeal no child should ever have to experience. He (the convict) s a prolific offender who poses a risk to children but now faces time behind bars," she stated.

Following his arrest, Horden was also praised for her tireless action and bravery to bring justice to the victims.

"It doesn’t matter when an offence took place, you deserve justice and we’re to help you achieve that," Detective Sergeant Shirly Cole.

According to a statement that was released by the DCI, the suspect, however, managed to evade police dragnet on several occasions while in Kenya during the hunt.

"After the suspect was granted bail, he fled from the United Kingdom to Kenya, where he has been engaging detectives in hide-and-seek games until his arrest this morning," read the statement in part.

The 51-year-old will be sentenced on June 14.
