Citizen TV journalist Sam Gituku is set to replace Francis Gachuri, on the News Gang show starting Thursday, April 6.

Sources at the Royal Media Services (RMS) intimated to Kenyans.co.ke that the Day Break show host was picked as Gachuri's replacement after the latter joined the Ministry of Interior.

Ahead of Gituku's unveiling, the station began running a promo of the show set to make a comeback on Thursday.

The station - in the one-minute clip - announced that there would be a new panelist on the show with the identity of the journalist masked.

"On April 6, 2023, a new gangster is on the loos. The gang returns at 9 pm on News Gang only on Citizen TV," the station announced.

Kenyans.co.ke established that other notable journalists had also been considered to take up Gachuri's slot before the management settled on Gituku.

News Night show host Waihiga Mwaura was among the top contenders. The journalist hosts prime-time news on Tuesdays.

Gituku joined RMS in March 2014, as a radio reporter trainee before debuting on TV in November the same same year, rising through the ranks to become a senior journalist and anchor.

A master's degree holder in communication studies, he has been praised for his interviewing skills and mastery of current affairs.

Some of the top politicians he has interviewed include President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Following the exit of Gachuri, News Gang was left with news anchor Yvonne Okwara, Jamila Mohammed and the station's editorial director, Linus Kaikai.

Gachuri bid farewell to the station on March 2 after his appointment as the Head of Communications in the Ministry of Interior.

The former Citizen TV journalist served at the station for 15 years.
