Citizen TV anchors Yvonne Okwara and Lulu Hassan and other colleagues surprised Francis Gachuri on Thursday, March 2, as he bid farewell to the station after 15 years.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the station's editorial team led by Citizen TV editorial director, Linus Kaikai, held a surprise mini-party for the journalist minutes before the 7 pm news bulletin.
The journalists celebrated Gachuri with songs and dances as they cut a cake to celebrate his 5661 days at the station.
Hours later, the company also held another farewell event for Gachuri after the News Gang show ended.
A collage video of his time at the station dating back to 2007 was played to detail his journey. From joining the station as a reporter to an anchor and political editor.
Another team led by Hassan Mugambi and Ayub Abdikadir walked in with a cake branded with Gachuri's photos and gifts.
Abdikadir gifted the former News Gang panellist a Manchester United jersey branded with his nickname 'Njamba'.
On his part, Gachuri reminisced about his time at the station and celebrated his colleagues who left a mark on his life.
"From September 1, 2007, it has been a great ride. With its fair share of ups and downs, tears, sweat and blood, great days and some not-so-good days, many star performances and a few poor shows that to me were more of experiences to learn, grow and improve.
"Today, March 2, 2023, I look back and can only smile and say, what a momentous journey. For 5,661 days I have been a member of the fantastic royal media family," he stated.
Gachuri is set to join the Ministry of Interior as the communications director.
