Lydia Tett Olet runs Omega Live Studios, a production company in London that hosts different shows and events with an international audience.

Speaking on Chams Media's Daring Abroad, Olet, a Kenyan, narrated that she began her career as a journalist over a year and a half earlier without any formal education in the sector.

Olet moved to London in 1994 as a traditional dancer after receiving her training from African Heritage Limited, a dance company that was run by an American, the late Allan Donovan.

She stated that Donovan exposed her to living abroad and helped her move.

Further, she added that her inspiration to get into media and journalism and host ‘Stand out speak out’ her biggest show at the studio, was the plight of women in Kenya.

“I am a journalist yet I have never gone to journalism school. Sometimes in life, there are people who are just gifted. I am a creative person and that is just a gift.

“I was motivated to start this show because of how I saw women being treated especially in Kenya. I use my voice even if it is one person I am going to save,” Olet explained.

When she first moved to London, she facilitated dance workshops through her company Malaika Dance Unique and later started working in the insurance sector as an advisor.

“I would call myself an entrepreneur, I do so many things. Some of them are actually totally the opposite of each other.

“For example, I am also an insurance advisor because I realised that a lot of people especially in the diaspora left their families in a worse financial situation after they died,” she noted.

At the same time, Olet is the founder of ‘Kenya and Friends in the Park’,  an annual event that brings together, Kenyans, institutions and organisations based in Kenya and abroad for a day of fun, learning, connecting and investing.

“Kenyans and Friends in the part have been a journey that began in 2015 and it has been a huge success. I am also a Nollywood actor and I perform at different workshops," added Olet.
