President William Ruto, on Tuesday, April 11, promised to establish a Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, following Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale's intervention.

Addressing the Muslim Community after Iftar at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Ruto pledged to set up the Consulate to help Kenyans living in Saudi Arabia.

The Head of State noted that the office would work in tandem with Kenya's embassy in Riyadh.

Ruto, however, revealed that Duale had given him a three-month ultimatum to set to the consulate. He took a dig at the CS, indicating that he did not request courteously.

"Duale told me we need this, and you should do it quickly. He gave me a three-month ultimatum. I was also given another ultimatum a few days ago," Ruto stated.

"I turned down the other ultimatum, I am contemplating turning down Duale's ultimatum. But because they are religious matters, we will establish a Consulate in Jeddah as you have requested," he further revealed.

To expedite the establishment of a consulate in Jeddah, Ruto tasked Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to prepare a report and submit it before the Cabinet for approval.

After breaking the fast, Ruto also promised to work with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to create a conducive business environment for Eastleigh traders. He lauded them, indicating they played a key role in helping its administration hit revenue targets.

Besides creating an enabling business environment, Ruto also promised to address the waste menace in Eastleigh and other Nairobi estates. He observed that the garbage could be used to generate electricity.

The promise aligned with his first pronunciation during the launch of the affordable housing project in Starehe on Monday, March 6, where he revealed that his administration had procured materials to actualise the project.

During the launch, Ruto explained that garbage would be heaped at one point and treated through different processes.

The trash will then be recycled to generate electricity and fed to the national grid for transmission.

"It is a project I am committed to, the national government will support the county government of Nairobi to realise the project even as we work with other counties across Kenya," Ruto promised.
