President William Ruto, on Friday, April 14, disclosed that his administration had gotten rid of a contractor involved in a water project in Machakos County.

Ruto stated that the contractor was specifically picked to deliver on a water project in Mwala Constituency. However, his administration was forced to chase the contractor away before the project's completion after he failed to deliver.

Justifying the decision, the Head of State insisted that the unamed contractor was stubborn and failed to meet his administration's expectations.

Nonetheless, Ruto assured residents that his administration was at an advanced stage of securing another contractor to finish project.

"In Mwala, we have a water project valued at Ksh500 million. There is a contractor who has been stubborn and we have chased him away

"We are looking for another contractor in order to get enough water in the country and we are starting it in every county," Ruto stated.

Ruto made the remarks during the commissioning of the Mavoko Water Supply Project. The President intimated that the project would connect 20,000 households to clean and safe water, benefiting 500,000 residents in Mavoko Township, Athi River, Mlolongo and Syokimau in the process

Further, the Head of State added that the project would create 300 job opportunities for the locals.

Firing Another Contractor

That was not the first time Ruto broke ties with contractors. While in Kisii, on Friday, March 24, the Head of State fired a contractor responsible for an incomplete project that had lasted over eight years.

Ruto directed Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to bring on board another contractor for that road project.

"That contractor should be out of that road since it has clearly proven difficult to complete it.

"We will give another contract for the job and a one-year timeline to complete it because the residents need it," he directed.

Asking CEOs to Refund Salary

Also, Ruto directed two chief executive officers (CEOs) to refund their salaries on Tuesday, October 11, for failing to perform their functions as assigned.

During the launch of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Market Place at the Exchange Building in Westlands, Ruto castigated the two CEOs asking them to account for the work done.

"I think it would be fair to ask for a refund of salaries from those two gentlemen. They haven't done the job they were hired to do and you know the job is based on results," he stated.

"So, you guys must actually demonstrate to me why you should not refund the salaries we have been paying you," Ruto added.
