The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), on Saturday, April 15, listed 14 online taxi providers licenced to operate in the country.
In a notice, the companies listed included Yego Mobility Limited, Little Ltd, Uber BV, Bolt Operations, Farasi Cabs Kenya, Hava Net Ltd and An Nisa Taxi Ltd.
H Cab Ltd, PTG Ltd, TMNK Enterprises Ltd, Amicabre Travel Services, Maramoja Transport Ltd, Move on Telecons Limited and J-RIDE Ltd were also licenced.
NTSA noted that the companies were approved in accordance with the National Transport and Safety Authority (Transport Network Companies, Owners, Drivers and Passengers) Regulations, 2022.
Kenyans opposed to any licence issued to the 14 companies were advised to lodge their appeals with the authority's tribunal board for consideration.
"The Transport Licensing Appeals Board Tribunal (TLAB) was established under Sections 38 and 30 of the National Transport and Safety Authority. Act No33 of 2012.
"Its jurisdiction is to hear and determine appeals from the licensing decisions of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA)," read the notice in part.
Individuals wishing to file a complaint were urged to do so physically by visiting the registry or filing the matter through the Judiciary E-Filing portal.
During the appeal, NTSA noted that one had to offer supporting documents to support their case.
"The documentation required includes a memorandum of appeal form that is available at the registry or upon request via WhatsApp- 0799000584 and any other supporting documents," NTSA added.
Following the gazettement of the Transport Network Companies, Owners, Drivers and Passengers Regulations, 2022, in June 2022, the safety authority was mandated to licence all taxi-hailing companies in the sector and regulate the sector.
According to the regulations, the licences are renewed after a year.
Online taxi-hailing companies are among the major transport stakeholders in Kenyan cities such as Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru.
