A group of 5 men wearing police uniforms were captured by CCTV footage, robbing a petrol station in Matungulu in Machakos County on April 22, 2022.
The suspects were seen tying the hands of three petrol station employees before leading them to one of the station’s offices.
They then robbed them of their valuables before locking them in the men’s washroom. However, their attempts to break into a safe in the office were futile.
Nonetheless, they were said to have only stolen Ksh5,000.
“They tied our hands to the back and started robbing us of all our money. They took our phones but left them on a table.
"After robbing us, they took us to the men’s washroom where they made us lie down and locked us inside,” one of the attendants at the petrol station recalled.
Initially, the attendants did not raise the alarm since the men were wearing police uniforms and appeared harmless.
“I saw one of them was fully dressed as an administration police (AP) officer,” disclosed one of the attendants victimized by the attackers.
Police launched investigations to unearth the faces behind the raid and the attack's motive.
Nonetheless, this is not the first time police officers or police impostors have been caught breaking the law.
On December 5, 2022, CCTV footage showed a police officer stealing valuables from Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) invigilators.
"The matter is before internal disciplinary mechanisms by the Administration Police Service since it appears that the officer is from the AP wing," police spokesperson Resila Atieno revealed.
