Police officers on Thursday, April 13, raided the house of a watchman in Molo, Nakuru County, to recover stolen hospital items.

According to the police, the suspect worked at Molo-Sub County Hospital, where the missing items were believed to have been stolen.

The items included the National flag, bed covers labelled the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Government of Kenya (GOK), and wooden boxes labelled MOH and GOK.

The watchman was taken into custody prior to his arraignment in court.

His arrest, however, stirred debate among Kenyans who question whether it was a crime to have the national flag in their houses.

Others suggested that the police should focus on dealing with the bandits rather than arresting the 'petty' offender.

On the other hand, some questioned why the police were yet to apprehend suspects involved in the multi-billion scandal involving lost medical supplies at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).

The watchman's arrest came months after the Nairobi County Government arrested members of a suspected gang caught stealing medicine at a hospital on February 21.

Police bounced into action following a tip-off before detaining the suspects at Kilimani Police Station.

Nairobi governor, Johnson Sakaja urged the public to share any intel when they spot unusual activities at hospitals.

"Help us serve you better. I have deployed over 100 police officers in all county health facilities to ensure security is provided to the health facilities and patients," Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja urged the public.
