The DG spoke during the release of the Petroleum Institute of East Africa (PIEA) first quarter 2023 State of the Petroleum Industry report where he was joined by other leaders including Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir.

He further emphasised that EPRA was firm on apprehending all Kenyans who are not complying with the regulations.

Kiptoo disclosed that during the ongoing crackdown on unauthorised Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) outlets, 19 sites had been closed.

According to the DG, the LPG compliance monitoring program had been successful with compliance standing at 99 per cent.

Kiptoo also announced plans to renew the licenses of stakeholders in the industry on a bi-annual or three-year basis and shift from the current annual renewal.

Meanwhile, in the bi-annual report, EPRA noted that several efforts had been made to monitor the quality of fuel designated for local consumption and for export.

"This program aims at shielding consumers from losses arising from malpractices such as fuel adulteration," Kiptoo explained.

In attendance was Energy CS Davis Chirchir who announced that in the next five-six days Kenyans will start buying fuel that shipped into Kenya.

He noted that the government will see that Kenyans buy fuel in shillings adding that about 35 per cent of the dollars will be saved.

"I believe in the next five to six days, the product set to be bought by the Kenya shilling will hit the market," he added.
