Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Thursday, April 27, revealed that several billionaires pleaded with him to save their children who were reportedly addicted to drugs.

Speaking during a meeting with national government administrators from Central Kenya in Nairobi County, the DP acknowledged that the drug menace in the region had also affected wealthy families, with children losing direction and sense of life.

Gachagua intimated that the billionaires had vowed to support his push to eradicate alcoholism and drug abuse nationwide.

Notably, he did not reveal the identity of the billionaires that had approached him owing to the matter's sensitivity.

"Since we started this war, big people, including billionaires, and the filthy rich, have called me, and they are saying that I should help them.

"They tell me that they have been suffering in silence and lost their own children ," he stated.

Consequently, he called on all Kenyans from all works of life to back the initiative underlining the importance of a society free of drugs.

The DP also called on parents to closely monitor their children, who spend most of their time away from home.

"This initiative has 100 per cent support of President William Ruto and the people of Kenya. I have never seen an initiative with such support.

"The only way of protecting your children is to ensure that these drugs are not around your children and those of others.

"Even when yours does not partake, they engage with others. You should know that there is peer pressure," he stated.

Among the measures Gachagua called for in the new proposals were stiff penalties for drug traffickers and regulation of the operation and licensing of bars in the country.
