President William Ruto terminated the contracts of a contractor behind a stalled road project in Uasin Gishu County, on Saturday, April 29.

While addressing residents, Ruto castigated the contractor, arguing that he had hampered developments in the area due to his incomplete work.

Defending his decision, Ruto noted that the project had regressed in the last five years.

"So I have told that person to leave that road and find something else to do. Let him go and become a charcoal burner, because it is also a form of work," Ruto stated.

"That person has been on that road for five years and he has done nothing," he further reprimanded the contractor.

He, however, directed local engineers to find another contractor in two weeks to build the road from Keboi to Katembu. The President added that the road was key to building a road linking Nandi and Uasin Gishu County.

"We will look for a contractor to build that road," Ruto told residents while commissioning the upgrading of 61-Kilometre roads linking Nandi and Uasin Gishu Counties.

At the same time, he directed the local engineers in both Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties to collaborate with the contractors to connect polytechnics, markets and schools with good road networks.

"I told those people there is no need to end that road at Katembu, I told them to extend it to Kipkaren. So we have agreed with the engineers that another road near a polytechnic within this area should be constructed," the Head of State instructed.

According to Ruto, scaling up road construction and upgrading was key to accelerating sustainable development.

"Our renewed and escalated investment in the construction of roads, especially in remote areas, is part of the Government’s large-scale plan to connect people and enterprises to the growing economic opportunities to accelerate sustainable and inclusive growth in the country," Ruto insisted.

He also launched several other projects in Kakamega County, accompanied by local leaders, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula and Kakamega Senator Boniface Khalwale.
