Well-wishers from across the world raised Ksh7.3 million through a GoFundMe campaign page to cater to a Kenyan family shot in Maple Valley, USA.
According to Wycliffe Brown Seda's family, the altercation ensued on April 21, 2023, after the husband went berserk and shot his entire family in a fit of rage.
Reports indicated that the suspect declined to let his 52-year-old wife, Maureen Seda, use one of their family cars to pick up their son, Nigel Seda, from the airport.
As soon as the son arrived home, he confronted his father who retaliated by knocking Nigel to the ground. The scuffle escalated after the daughter, Audrey Seda, intervened in the argument.
Without warning, the husband reportedly retrieved a gun and shot his family multiple times.
Nigel was shot three times in the abdomen, the wife was shot in the arms and buttocks while the daughter Audrey was shot in the ribs and stomach.
According to charging documents, the husband called 911 and was asked by the dispatcher if he shot his wife and he replied, “Yeah, I shot them.”
The suspect, however, claimed that he did so in self-defense alleging that the family had initiated the attack against him.
Police officers drawn from King County Sheriff's office arrived at the scene and found the suspect in the driveway while holding his mobile phone and his pistol in his pocket.
The three family members were rushed to hospital while the husband was taken to King County jail and will be arraigned in court on May 9, 2023.
The mother and the daughter were treated for the gunshot wounds and were released days later. The son, however, incurred grave injuries and is on a feeding tube.
Owing to the incident, Margaret filed a restraining order against her husband in fear that he would post bail and come back to torment them. She is also seeking to file for divorce.
Days after the incident, a Go-Fund-Me page was formed by the Seda family which sought funds to cater for a lawyer's fees, medical expenses and the son's rent.
"This innocent family’s life is forever changed and we are all left in shock and disbelief. They must focus on their physical, emotional and mental health right now," read part of the GoFund Me profile.
