Eliud Wekesa alias Yesu Wa Tongaren of the New Jerusalem sect was a happy man on Tuesday, May 9, after area Member of Parliament (MP) John Chikati offered to pay his daughter’s school fees.

This was after the Tongaren MP gave Ksh20,000 to his daughter identified as 'Nabii Enoka’ who was set to join college.

“Today I’m a very happy man as God has performed a miracle for me, my daughter will now go school after the MP offered to pay her school fees,” stated Yesu Wa Tongaren.

He emphasized that he always urged parents to take their children to school in order to lead better lives in future.

“Our children must be taken to school, because even reading the bible requires someone to have at least gone to school,” he stated.

Wekesa at the same time urged his followers and locals to seek medical attention in case of health complications, adding that doctors treat but healing comes from God.

On the other hand Chikati defended Wekesa, arguing that he had not broken any law by calling himself ‘Yesu wa Tongaren'.

“Yesu Wa Tongaren is a good man, he has been praying for us and he is also generous,” Chikaki noted.

The MP underscored the need for members of the sect and other citizens to take their children to school.

“With the help of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) we will support learning at all levels starting from primary, secondary to tertiary/university level,” the MP stated.

He urged 'Nabii Enoka’ to work hard in pursuing her studies and serve as a role model in the constituency and the country at large.

Chikati, a first time MP is also the current Ford Kenya party Secretary General who took over from former MP Dr. Eseli Simiyu.

The incident happened barely a day after Bungoma Police Commander, Francis Kooli, summoned Yesu Wa Tongaren, for questioning over allegations of questionable teachings.

Speaking to the media, Wekesa pleaded with the police not to apprehend him, arguing that he had done nothing wrong.

"It would be unfair if they detain me since the law punishes those who are on the wrong side. If you have done no wrong, then why be apprehended?" he wondered.
