East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega, on Wednesday, May 10, wrote to the bipartisan committee pushing for the inclusion of a member of the Jubilee party.

In a letter, Kega lamented that after Eldas MP Adan Keynan stepped down from the line-up, the party did not have representation in the talks.

The EALA lawmaker noted that the exclusion of the party, which was the third largest party in parliament would have a negative impact on the electoral system in the country.

“We write to protest the exclusion of the Jubilee Party in the proposed membership of your committee. The proposed mandate of your committee will have far-reaching implications in our electoral process in which Jubilee Party is a major stakeholder.

“As the third largest political party in parliament, we strongly protest the exclusion of the Jubilee party in the committee,” the letter read in part.

Further, Kega issued a 14-day ultimatum after which the party would take legal action if a member of Jubilee is not included in the committee.

“We accordingly demand that no further deliberations on the proposed bipartisan process should proceed before our party representation in the process is factored in.

“Please take notice that Jubilee Party will seek legal redress within 14 days from the date hereof in the event that the proposed bipartisan process proceeds without representation of our party,” the letter added.

The move came after another notice by Kega suspending the National Delegates Conference (NDC) convened by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Jubilee Party leader.

The NDC was slated to take place on Monday, May 22.

Kega, who fell out with Uhuru after the 2022 polls, stated that the Jubilee Party National Executive Committee (NEC) would convene a special meeting for all the party delegates in the coming days arguing that Uhuru's call for NDC was unlawful

"Take notice that the Jubilee Party National Executive Committee (NEC) has suspended the notice for a Special National Delegates Conference published in the print media on April 29,” the notice read in part.
