For ten years, Bancy Mukami has remained behind bars after being convicted for the murder of her husband on his birthday.

Speaking to Inooro TV's Njeraini Citu, she detailed the harrowing events, indicating how a moment of bliss turned into a tragic tale.

"On that fateful day in 2014, we had our friends over and went to a local joint in Embu County to celebrate my husband's birthday," she noted.

The wife pointed out that the husband was heavily intoxicated before they went back to the house in the wee hours of the morning. At the time, the househelp and their nine-year-old child were present.

What was to be a moment of delight turned into an heated confrontation between the couple.

"During the argument, I went outside to take a breather but he followed me and used a knife in his possession to cut me on my cheek. Shocked with what had happened, the househelp shouted that I was bleeding," she noted.

Filled with rage, Mukami claimed that she rushed back to the house and took a knife and stabbed him.

"It was not something I had planned for but it was in self-defense," she pleaded.

Mukami narrated that she called a taxi which rushed both of them to the hospital where her husband succumbed after excessive bleeding.

"I called a taxi and went to the hospital and the doctors attended to me first before my husband. They, however, found that he had lost his life. He was taken to the morgue and I was taken to the police station," she added.

She indicated that she had reached out to her husband's parents for forgiveness as they are yet to reach out to her since 2016.

"I sought forgiveness from Bishop Maina and his wife Tabitha Wanjiru, the parents of my husband. Even the Word states that we should forgive. This was not something I had planned for and they visited me once in 2016, accepted my apology took my child and I haven't seen them since."

"I believe they are yet to accept my apology in their hearts, so I hope they will forgive my actions," she pointed out.

Mukami, who is serving a death sentence, has served ten years at Lang'ata Womens Prison, Nairobi.
