Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday, May 19, surprised graduates at the Mukurwe-ini Technical Training Institute with Ksh500,000 for a party.
Gachagua donated the money to celebrate the students who were marking a new chapter in their life.
He stated that the money was also an appreciation for the overwhelming support that he had received following his election as Deputy President.
"The president said that I should ensure that work is done. Now, should I organise a bash? Do you want a bash? Are you going home today?
"You are the one who gave me this job and if they say they want a bash. I must do it. I will, therefore, leave Ksh500,000 for you to organise your things," he stated.
Additionally, Gachagua also gave Ksh100,000 to pupils from a neighbouring primary school. The pupils entertained the DP during the event.
He stated that the money would be used to buy lunch for the pupils in appreciation of their talent.
On the other hand, Gachagua maintained that the administration was committed to creating employment for young people adding his voice to the ongoing debate over the Housing Fund.
He explained that President William Ruto's proposal for the monthly 3 per cent salary deduction was also aimed at creating employment for the students graduating from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
"The housing programme will create employment for the young people, especially for the graduates in TVETS at an average of 8 artisans per unit. We want to ask all Kenyans to find it important and necessary to support the programme," he asserted.
Gachagua was in Nyeri County to officiate various development projects in the Mount Kenya region.
Earlier, before the graduation, the DP delivered a bus to St Benedict Wamutitu Secondary School which was purchased through the Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
