A lorry driver and his turn boy on Thursday, May 18, were left stranded and tied after people posing as customers attacked them and stole their vehicle.

The customers are said to have hired a vehicle to transport building blocks from Ndarugo in Kiambu to Gilgil in Nakuru.

However, when the duo arrived at the destination, the suspects threatened them with guns and instructed them to park on the side.

The suspects hijacked the vehicle, tied the two men with ropes, and vanished with the car.

Following the incident, the victims reported to the local police station to help trace the vehicle and arrest the culprits.

Kenyans called upon the relevant authorities to intervene and apprehend the suspects.

"As a country, we need to have enough surveillance cameras along all the roads linked to one data center, all you will need to do in such a situation is type in the license plate number and you get the results," one suggested.

Others suggested that the car was already dismantled and different parts sold to spare part dealers while others argued that the lorry may be headed for the border.

However, many questioned why the driver took an order without the necessary contact details of the buyers and whether the lorry had a tracker to ease the process.

Recently, several motorists have turned to the use of Mulika Mwizi phones to track cars after they are stolen in an attempt to recover them.

The fully charged phone is fitted with an active sim card hidden inside the car and acts as a secondary tracker in case the suspects disable the car's tracker.

Meanwhile, motorists were cautioned to avoid falling into such traps that have become more rampant in different areas.

In March, police officers busted suspects accused of stealing cars and dismantling them at home then later sell as spare parts and scrap metal.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided the area and arrested eight suspects as investigations continued.
