East African Legislative Assembly Member of parliament Kanini Kega on Sunday May 21 took a swipe at retired president Uhuru Kenyatta asking him to quit active politics and hand over jubilee party leadership to other leaders.

Kega was speaking during a Sunday service at Isiolo Boys High School, Isiolo County where President William Ruto was also present.

The lawmaker who leads a splinter group of the Jubilee Party at the same time declared that former president Uhuru Kenyatta should not be involved in the current Jubilee party wrangles but take time to focus at other issues in his retirement.

“When you retire from office of the president you keep off matters of political party issues and allow other leaders also to serve,” he stated.

At the same time, Kega declared that there will no Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) on Monday as earlier indicated by the Jeremiah Kioni faction.

“I want to assure you that there will be Jubilee party NDC tomorrow, Monday May 22, as the party leadership we shall organize and announce the date and venue for the NDC later,” he confirmed.

Kanini Kega’s remarks came days after former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, May 19 moved the Jubilee Party NDC from the Bomas of Kenya to Ngong Racecourse.

At the same time Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro who was speaking at the event urged the president to retire from active politics according to the constitution of Kenya.

“I would like to urge our former president to retire from politics according to the constitution of Kenya which requires former president to quit active politics six months after retirement,” Ndindi Nyoro stated.

Nyoro at the same time urged Uhuru to congratulate President William Ruto and reconcile with him.

In a notice published by the party, Uhuru maintained that the meeting would go on as planned with the agenda remaining the same.

Uhuru signed off the notice even as he called on the delegates to attend the meeting slated for Monday, May 22.

"Notice is hereby given that the venue of the Jubilee NDC has been moved to Ngong Racecourse, Nairobi. All other details remain as per the notice published on April 29, 2023," read the notice in part.

Uhuru’s change of the venue was reached at after the party failed to secure Bomas of Kenya as venue for the NDC.

However, despite changing the venue, the party's Internal Dispute Resolution Committee (IDRC) maintained that the meeting called for by Uhuru would remain suspended until the dispute over the matter is determined.

"If the SNDC is allowed to proceed as scheduled the Dispute will be rendered nugatory: it is therefore in the nearest of justice that the substratum of the dispute is preserved pending its hearing and determination.

"The notice issued by the Respondent to convene a Special National Delegates Convention (SNDC) and published in the print media on 29th April 2023 by stayed and suspended pending the hearing and resolution of the dispute," directed the committee.

Uhuru's camp announced that the NDC would take place at the Ngong Racecourse, a private facility - a move seen as a way to counter the state machinery.
