A 71-year-old grandmother living in Githurai, Nairobi, is counting losses after goons reportedly stormed her homestead and flattened her permanent house.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, May 23, the victim, claimed that the goons demolished the house she built in 1995.

She also accused an unidentified woman of sponsoring the attacks and attempting to grab her land.

"I am feeling bad when I remember the trouble I experienced while building this house in 1995. Since then, I never encountered a person claiming that the plot is theirs.

"Recently, a woman came claiming that the plot is hers and took my friend to police," the victim told the press.

She further lamented that she may have been caught in a crossfire between the unidentified woman who had a tiff with her friend.

On the other hand, her friend claimed that she was perturbed by the attack, arguing that she did not understand why the house was demolished.

She noted that she was aware of the unidentified woman reporting her but maintained that her ownership of a parcel of land in question was authentic.

"I remember the woman took me to court claiming I live in her homestead. I was shocked at how she claimed I live in her homestead, yet I haven't built a house myself. It got to a point she demolished Watetu's house," lamented the embattled friend.

According to witnesses, youth have been targeting elderly homeowners in Githurai, which straddles Nairobi and Kiambu counties.

Over the years, land conflicts have been a thorny issue across several communities countrywide, with the most affected being those practising pastoralism.

On Sunday, May 21, a man chopped off his stepbrother's hand in Sangalo village, Bungoma County, as the duo fought over land ownership.

Police launched investigations into the incident with the suspect and eye witnesses recording statements.
