Azimio Youth Leader Calvin Gaucho was on Tuesday, May 23, arrested after walking into Nairobi Central Police Station.
In a statement, Azimio la Umoja coalition noted that the outspoken supporter of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had gone to the station to inquire about his phone.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of Communications Phillip Etale confirmed that the phone in question had been confiscated in an earlier arrest ahead of the opposition protests in which Gaucho took part.
"Calvin Okoth, aka Gaucho, has been arrested by officers from Nairobi Area (county headquarters) at the Central Police Station where he had gone to inquire about his phone which was confiscated when he was arrested some time back," read the statement by Etale.
Confirming the arrest, KANU Secretary of Political Affairs Fredrick Okango noted that police from the station had communicated to Azimio la Umoja team about the arrest.
He further noted that the legal counsel from the Raila-led faction had taken charge of the situation.
Our attempts to get a comment from Central Police Station were, however, futile since police officers remained mum with the information.
Earlier Arrest
On March 24, just two days before the then-scheduled Azimio countrywide protests, Gaucho was arrested alongside another Raila diehard Nuru Okanga.
The opposition at the time noted that the duo was taken into police custody without specifying any charges.
At the time, Gaucho was held at Limuru Police Station in Kiambu County while Okanga had been placed under the custody of police officers at Karuri Police Station.
The two were, however, released on a Ksh1,000 bail each on March 28 after spending four days behind bars.
Gaucho is known for being a mobiliser of the opposition and impressed former President Uhuru Kenyatta who promised to buy him lunch during the Monday, May 22, National Delegates Conference (NDC) at Ngong Race Course.
