The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Wednesday, May 24, dismissed claims that its two tabs on the eCitizen platform was part of an elaborate scheme to con Kenyans.
Responding to a frustrated motorist, NTSA noted that the information was misleading.
"Do not even dare use any platform on eCitizen, use TIMS, eCitizen does not remit the money to NTSA," the motorist complained.
"This is misleading the public. We urge our client to visit ntsa.go.ke, click on the preferred service portal, and make service applications," NTSA stated.
According to the motorist, the two tabs named 'old' and 'new' were a clever way to con Kenyans.
"My biggest problem is when you use eCitizen, they don't link the payment to NTSA, and when you visit NTSA they will blatantly tell you that eCitizen won't remit so you pay via TIMS," the motorist added.
According to NTSA, there are two tabs set aside on the eCitizen platform, one is dedicated to the Application and Renewal of Driving Licences while the other consolidates functions related to NTSA KG Plate Licenses, Foreign Vehicle Permits/Licenses, and Motor Vehicle registration.
On the platform, the two tabs have different user interfaces and various options for motorists to choose from.
Some services offered on one of the tabs include an application for a driver PSV badge, Endorsement Provisional Driving License (PDL), Instructor License, Application for PDL, DL copy for the record, and Foreign driving license conversion.
While on the other tab allows motorists as well as pay and download NTSA services online.
In response to why the motorist's payment had not been reflected from March, NTSA urged the motorist to contact @eCitizenKenya to link the payment to the service application.
"Contact eCitizenKenya the payment message," the authority added.
The eCitizen platform allows Kenyans to easily access government services. According to the government, more services are being added to the platform as the government moves to digitise key services.
"You first digitise government records so that everything is on ICT enabled platform, you then digitise the services by engaging service providers but the platform will be in the hands of the government," explained ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo in January.
