A man was captured by CCTV walking into a money shop that also hosts a cyber cafe in Kahawa Wendani and leaving with a phone that was placed on the counter.
From the footage released on Tuesday, May 30, the two shop attendants were seemingly distracted by one attending to a customer.
The suspect is said to have spotted the phone lying on the counter when making rounds outside the shop, before entering the premises.
He walked in while inspecting the area to ensure he was not caught by the attendants, unknown to him the camera captured the happenings.
The suspect stealthily reached for the phone, slowly pulling it to his side with the tip of his fingers.
When he had a firm grip on the gadget, he scanned the environment again pretending to seek help before leaving the shop.
However, the attendants were left unaware of what transpired.
Despite the incident, many were quick to point out the poor customer service skills of the two attendants who failed to notice his presence.
"Why did the guy at the cyber section not even greet the customer after he walked in? This is ignorance," one stated.
The incident came days after another incident involving a distracted victim and three men at a nightclub in Nairobi.
In the footage, two men were seen interacting with two women at a club while a third man was hovered around pretending to be on the phone.
After several attempts, the man on the phone stole the device and hastily left the premises.
Kenyans are urged to exercise caution, while on the streets and other public places to avoid losing their valuables.
