CCTV footage released on Tuesday, May 9, revealed a man stealing a woman's phone at a nightclub in Nairobi in the wee hours.

In the two-minute video, two ladies conversed with two men while enjoying drinks at the table. The suspect was seen lurking around the table.

When one of the 'couple' got cosy, the suspect made his move and snatched the phone before hastily exiting the premises.

One of the men followed him in the opposite direction while the other stuck around as the ladies were figuring out the incident.

It was alleged that the suspect was in cohorts with the two men hanging around the ladies' table.

Notably, he had attempted to steal the phone while pretending to be on a call.

According to the footage, the incident occurred on May 6, at around 4.40 am, when the club was less busy but with blaring music.

After the incident, the victim accused her counterpart of colluding with the thieves. She aggressively dragged her off the seat to search for her stolen phone.

The incident elicited debate among Kenyans who questioned how casually the ladies interacted with the trio perceived to be strangers

"This was well planned but why do people even entertain a stranger," one person questioned.

Club owners were urged to ensure bouncers and security aides were manning the CCTV room and the dancehall areas.

Others questioned why clubs had more bouncers on the floor, but no one kept an eye on the CCTV footage to prevent such cases.

The club was pressured to account for all losses incurred.
