The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has cautioned the public against a fraudulent scheme in which conmen are falsely claiming to offer admissions at the institution.
In a public advisory released on Wednesday, January 7, the institution stated that it had noted a fraudulent scheme that is being used by scammers, especially on social media platforms, claiming to be able to secure or guarantee slots for courses at KMTC colleges.
The institution urged the public to be vigilant and not to fall prey to the fraudsters, warning them against sharing personal details or sending money.
"Members of the public are strongly cautioned against falling prey to conmen and fraudulent individuals claiming to be able to 'secure' or 'guarantee' slots for courses at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC)," KMTC stated.
"Fraudsters are currently using social media platforms (Facebook and WhatsApp) and unofficial phone calls to solicit money from desperate applicants," it added.
The institution warned the public not to pay any money, noting that applications and placements are strictly out of merit and the required cluster points.
It also encouraged the public to visit official channels and the website, noting that all pre-service course applications needed to be submitted online through an official placement portal.
The college clarified that it does not issue admission letters via WhatsApp or personal phone contacts, stressing that successful applicants can only access their letters by downloading them directly from official KMTC portals after placement.
The advisory came hours after the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) announced that it would start accepting applications for students joining KMTC.
KUCCPS said the application window will be open from January 7 to January 27, during which eligible candidates must access the KUCCPS student portal to check available programmes and apply for their preferred courses.
KUCCPS noted that the opportunity was to give hundreds of students a chance and help respond to Kenya's growing demand for healthcare professionals, with KMTC being one of the largest trainers of medical personnel in the country.
The institution notes that this development might open ways for fraudsters and scammers to lure unsuspecting Kenyans. It, however, urged those experiencing challenges with the online process to visit any of its campuses for official guidance.
