Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, on Tuesday, June 13, called out a section of Kenyans whom he accused of spreading false and deceptive information about his health condition.

Museveni expressed his frustration over reports suggesting that he had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and required oxygen support. He further refuted claims that he was critically ill, noting that he was recovering well from Covid-19.

“I noticed some few individuals from, I think, Kenya, saying that I was in ICU. If I were in ICU, the government would inform the country. What is there to hide?” Museveni wondered.

Museveni explained that at no particular time had he required intensive care during the days he was battling the virus.

“I have not been to bed as a sick man in the house here except for sleeping, let alone being in a hospital bed, whether ICU or otherwise,” he remarked.

On his progress, the President noted, “Except for Tuesday and Wednesday when there was a mild flu-like fever, I only had some drowsiness on Thursday and mild headache at night.”

Museveni remarked that all the symptoms had faded by Friday, June 9, and he resorted to doing paperwork.

The update from Museveni came a day after Kenyan Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Health Susan Nakhumicha dismissed reports claiming COVID-19 had broken out in Kenya.

Nakhumicha added that surveillance reports indicated the country was safe, contrary to the misleading reports.

"From our surveillance, we do not have an upsurge of Covid yet that we can report to the country and tell them to take corrective action,” she stated.

The CS explained that the increased cases of flu-like symptoms were associated with the cold season and not the Coronavirus.

She advised Kenyans to get flu vaccines, sanitize and wear masks.
