Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Wednesday, June, 14 revealed that goons captured on CCTV snatching a foreigner’s purse have been arrested.

In a statement, Sakaja noted that the suspects had been arrested following a days-long operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

“Thank you DCI for your action. These culprits have been nabbed by the DCI who will give further details of their action. We are grateful for the continued partnership in securing our county,” the governor stated.

The governor further explained that he held discussions over the course of action to be taken after investigations were carried out over the Toi and Mutindwa market fires.

“We have also agreed on decisive action to be taken after investigations into the Toi and Mtindwa fires,” he added.

In the CCTV footage, the armed thugs on a motorbike are seen ambushing a group of three foreign nationals, before snatching a handbag from one of the ladies and riding away on a motorcycle.

Similar robbery incidents of goons harassing and stealing from citizens in the city were reported on different occasions.

In a separate incident, five suspects posing as police officers on June 10 looted Ksh4 million from two Chinese nationals within Nairobi.

According to the DCI report, the Chinese nationals were ambushed by the suspects who were trailing them from a local bank at Chiromo after a bank withdrawal.

Consequently, the detectives shared a photo of a suspect involved in the robbing of the Chinese nationals, calling on citizens to volunteer information that may lead to their arrest.

Another incident occurred on May 24, when thugs masquerading as madmen robbed revelers at a drinking joint in Ruaraka, Nairobi.

Police reported that the goons, who carried sacks, removed weapons before ordering everybody in the club to lie down. They then stole from them before disappearing in the dark with phones, money and other valuables.
