Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), on Saturday, June 10, launched a manhunt for five suspects who posed as police officers before stealing Ksh4 million cash from a foreigner's car.

In a statement, DCI sleuths stated that the suspects accosted a couple of Chinese descent on their way from a local bank in Chiromo, Nairobi, where they withdrew the money on Friday, June 9.

The gang reportedly trailed the couple from Chiromo in Nairobi to Juja in Kiambu County, where they robbed them of the cash

In a well-choreographed theft, the gang intercepted the vehicle carrying the couple and forced their way inside, before getting away with the money.

"But as they were driving along Bob Haris road, a white Toyota Axio intercepted their vehicle before the five thugs jumped out of the car and forcefully gained entry into their vehicle, making away with the cash," DCI's statement read in part.

According to the DCI, the couple was heading to Kiahuria in Juja, where they operate a quarry.

"Should you have any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects, kindly inform our detectives through the DCI hotline number 0800 722 203," the security unit stated.

DCI circulated a photo of one of the masterminds of the theft, asking the public to share information that would lead to arrest.

In September 2022, DCI reported a similar case where a British national lost Ksh4 million in Lang'ata estate, Nairobi.

The foreigner claimed to have lost the money at a shopping mall in Nairobi. Following the incident, police launched investigations to unravel the incident.

Detectives acquired CCTV footage to ascertain how the foreigner's money disappeared without him discovering it.

Citing the incident, DCI warned Kenyans against walking with huge amounts of money.
