Officers based at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Starehe, on Wednesday, May 24, launched a manhunt for three suspects who robbed revelers at a drinking joint in Ruaraka, Nairobi County.

DCI report indicated the incident occurred Tuesday, May 23 night when the suspects ordered all revelers at Ruaraka’s Kasabuni area to lie down before ransacking their pockets and fleeing into darkness.

“Detectives based at DCI Starehe are looking for three suspects who raided a drinking joint at Ruaraka’s Kasabuni area, and ordered all revelers to lie down before ransacking their pockets and fleeing into darkness,” read part of the DCI report.

Police report further stated that revelers could not suspect anything dangerous, until when they were all ordered to lie down.

It was calm in the club until one of the presumed madmen brandished a riffle from his sack and ordered everyone to lie down.

“Everybody lie down,’ ordered the thugs as the pub suddenly went quiet. One of the revelers who seemed to have imbibed one too many retorted ‘who are you?’ ... as his mate quipped ‘shut up! they are miscreants!,” read part of the DCI report.

The attackers then ransacked their pockets for mobile phones, cash and other valuables before escaping.

One of the robbers shot in the air when one of the revelers attempted to confront him, in a commotion that alerted police officers on patrol.

Police officers responded immediately and rushed to the scene, but by the time of their arrival, the thugs had vanished into darkness.

Two empty cartridges of 7.62mm were collected at the scene as officers pursue leads into the whereabouts of the thugs masquerading as madmen.

The spent cartridges were sent to the DCI National Forensic Laboratory for analysis by ballistic experts.

In a different incident, officers from Kabete Police Station apprehended two suspects on Tuesday, May 23, and recovered two firearms, a machete and a motorcycle.

Other items recovered include two power banks, a WiFi router, a mobile phone - two power tablets and memory cards.

A similar incident occurred on May 22, when detectives from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, posing as jua kali traders arrested two robbery suspects in Kakamega County.

According to a DCI report, the two suspects were associated with recent armed attacks in Kakamega, Vihiga and Uasin Gishu counties.

The two were arrested after a chase that culminated at river Lwatingu where the main suspect was arrested as he attempted to evade justice.
