Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, on Friday, June 16, appointed his former running mate Faith Mwaura as a member of the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) board of directors.

In a gazette notice, Kuria indicated that Mwaura would serve for three years, effective June 16, 2023.

Mwaura succeded Wilson Mboche Waithaka, whose appointment was revoked with immediate effect. Waithaka had served as a board director since his appointment in May 2021.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (e) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51 of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry appoints Faith Mwaura," read part of the statement.

Mwaura is a real estate entrepreneur with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Daystar University and a Master's in Real Estate from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland.

In the 2022 Kiambu Gubernatorial race, Kuria picked Mwaura as his running mate under his Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party.

The duo garnered 24,512 votes, losing the election to Governor Kimani Wamatangi who emerged first with 348,371 votes.

The Kenya Development Corporation is a state-owned development finance institution that provides long-term financing, financial investments, and business advisory services. These roles enable it to catalyse sustainable socio-economic development.

KDC addresses the critical long-term funding gaps that commercial banks cannot meet in target sectors in Kenya and abroad.

In other appointments, Kuria selected Grace A. Otieno and Judith Kerich as members of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Accreditation Service for three years, effective June 16.

The CS further revoked the appointment of Simon Saining'u and Hezbon K'Ogallo, appointed the agency in 2022 by former Trade CS Betty Maina.
