The family of the late National Youth Service (NYS) officer, Simon Ng’ang’a, on Friday, June 23, pointed out gaps in his death.

Ng'ang'a, a 22-year NYS officer, was found dead at a farm in Yatta, Machakos County, on June 17, a few days after reporting to work.

According to the mother, she learnt of her son's death after receiving a phone call from his camp.

The caller claimed that the deceased went missing a few days before his body was found dead by the camp's watchmen at around 1 am.

"He asked us to visit the camp but we first demanded to know what was wrong. That was when he confirmed that Ng'ang'a was dead," the grieving mother recalled while fighting back tears.

Disgruntled by their explanation, the mother, who was engulfed with intense sadness, left for the camp to ascertain what had transpired.

She claimed that she found the body oozing blood from the ears and had strangulation marks on his neck, most likely inflicted by a wire.

"I saw my child and did not want to look at him twice. He was severely beaten up," she stated, with grief and sorrow permeating her entire being.

She added that it appeared her son was dragged on the ground due to the dirt on his face and grass on his clothes. His trousers were also torn, pointing to a struggle with his killers.

On the other hand, the sister alleged that the service called them and reported that Ng'ang'a was missing for two days. However, when they arrived at the camp, the management contradicted itself by claiming he had only vanished for one day.

"When they called us, we were confused since the caller did not introduce himself. After probing him, he confirmed that he was Ng'ang'a's supervisor. He first told us my brother was missing," she recalled.

The family suspected their kin was killed before his body was dumped at the farm. They urged the police to apprehend the culprits and ensure justice prevails, arguing that they were frustrated by the circumstances surrounding the youth's death.

Post-mortem results established that the young man died of strangulation and suffered a head injury after being hit with a blunt object

According to Yatta  DCIO Benard Rono, two watchmen were arrested in connection to the murder and were assisting the police with the investigations.
