President William Ruto, on Friday, June 23, offered former Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi a new role three days after revoking his appointment as Chairperson of the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Board.

In a gazette notice, Ruto reappointed Bunyasi and deployed him to serve as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Development Corporation.

Bunyasi will serve as KDC's new board chair for three years, effective June 23, 2023.

On Tuesday, June 20, Ruto terminated Bunyasi's role at the Vision 2030 Delivery Board, which drafts policies and advises the government on Kenya's development blueprint.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 2 (f) of gazette notice No. 1386 of 2009, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of Sakwa Bunyasi as Chairperson of the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Board," the gazette notice dated Tuesday, June 20, read in part.

Bunyasi was appointed to the Vision 2030 Delivery Board on Friday, February 10, through a gazette notice that also terminated Caroline Kariuki's contract.

However, the gazette notice indicated that Bunyasi's formal appointment was on December 20, 2022

He thus had served for nearly three months before his appointment was publicised.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 2 (f) of gazette notice No. 1386 of 2009, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Sakwa Bunyasi to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Board, for three (3) years, with effect from December 23, 2022. The appointment of Caroline Kariuki is revoked," the notice read in part.

In the latest gazette notice, Ruto did not divulge much on the reasons that necessitated Bunyasi's transfer and appointment as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Development Corporation.

In the 2022 General Election, Bunyasi unsuccessfully contested Busia's gubernatorial seat, losing to Paul Otuoma of the Orange Democratic Movement.

Aggrieved by the outcome, he challenged the win at the High Court only for it to uphold Otuoma's victory.
