The main suspect in the murder of former Treasury official, Tom Osinde, was seen driving the deceased's car two days before the vehicle being found abandoned on June 22.
Neighbours who spoke to the media on Thursday, June 29, claimed that they were astounded at seeing the suspect resurface three years after he fled Kisii, forcing them to raise the alarm.
Following the unexpected development, the concerned neighbours became curious about his intentions and why he was driving Osinde's black Landcruiser.
Contrary to what they expected, the suspect ignored their questions and requested their assistance in washing the vehicle.
"We did not wash the inside of the car. We were told that it had a lot of luggage," one of the neighbours recalled.
In a startling revelation, the neighbours alleged that the suspect fled from his home in Kisii after being implicated in another murder case.
Police investigating the murder ascertained that the suspect was spotted driving the vehicle days after Osinde's disappearance on June 18. They, however, did not corroborate the neighbours' allegations linking the suspect to another murder case.
“We have confirmed that the suspect was driving the vehicle at the time Osinde was being sought by the family and the police,”
“It was noted that the boot of the car had blood," an officer privy to the case disclosed.
Detectives arrested the main suspect, on Wednesday, June 28, who led them to River Kuja in Migori.
The area's Assitant Chief revealed that the main suspect confessed to having dumped the body in the river next to his rural home.
However, the search and rescue team could not find the body which was later found to have been booked as a John Doe at a morgue in the county.
Osinde's body was, on June 29, moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, pending a postmortem slated for Friday, June 30.
