President William Ruto on Friday, June 30, unveiled the Digital Government Services, Gava Mkononi (eCitizen Mobile App), at the  Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The platform is expected to bring over 5,000 government services under one roof allowing Kenyans to conveniently access critical government services in the comfort of their homes.

Additionally, Ruto unveiled the Gava Express which mirrors Huduma Centers. The platform will provide services at the grassroots, unlike the physical centers that offer government services in urban areas.

In a partnership with the private sector, the government aims to open over 300,000 outlets countrywide.

Besides setting out on a mission to ensure Kenyans access crucial services more conveniently, the Ruto administration aims at digitising all its services with a view to eliminating corruption by cutting out physical interactions, brokers, and other influence peddlers.

Other goals, the platform seeks to achieve include increasing revenue collection by minimising leakages, a niggling problem that comes with manual collection of levies.

The platform also seeks to create employment by incubating innovations and projects whose funding is enabled by more revenue collection.

Some of the services offered on the app include business registration services, police clearance, civil registration services, foreign nationals' initial registration, and the directorate of immigration services.

Other services include those offered by the Kenya Ports Authority, Kenya Revenue Authority, Hustler Fund, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

How to Access

The app can be downloaded online before a user progresses to creating an account by inputting the necessary information.

Some of the required details include the name of the user, phone number, National Identity Card, and email address.

Notably, you can register either as a citizen, foreigner, or resident using the platform.

Once registered, Kenyans can browse through the numerous government services.

Kenyans can pay for all services via mobile money and debit cards.
