Ruto Appoints Ex-Military Boss in New State Appointments

President William Ruto on Friday, June 30, appointed Brigadier (Rtd) Richard Mbithi to serve as the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the East African Portland Cement Company Limited.

Mbithi, who will serve in the position for a period of three years from June 30, 2023, was among several other appointments made by the Head of State.

In a Gazette notice, the brigadier took over from Edwin Kinyua whose appointment had been revoked by the President.

"I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Brigadier (Rtd) Richard Mbithi to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the East African Portland Cement Company Limited," read part of the gazette notice.

The East African Portland Cement Company Limited prides itself on its commitment to contributing to the construction of proper housing in the country.

It was established in 1933 and started as a trading company importing cement mainly from England for early construction in East Africa.

The company's vision is to be the regional leader in the provision of cement, innovative cement products, and solutions.

Other Appointments

Ruto also appointed Felicity Nkirote Biriri as the Chairperson of the Warehouse Receipt System Council while Joseph Ntoeruaki will serve as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service.

Additionally, Geoffrey Rukuja (Dr.), Anthony Mwangi Githinji, and Cate Wanjirah Mbogoh were appointed as members of the Board of Directors of Tana Water Works Development Agency for a period of three years each.

The new appointees at the Tana Water Works Development Agency will serve up to July 4, 2025. Ruto, on the other hand, revoked the appointment of Joseph Gichohi, Patrick Nyoike Njehia, and Winnie Mwai at the agency.

Since ascending to power, Ruto has reshuffled boards in various departments, while revoking the appointment of others that served in the previous regime.
