TV reporter Sharon Barang’a, on Wednesday, July 5, announced that she had joined China state broadcaster, CTGN, days after she quit TV47.
Barang’a stated that she would be working with the China state-owned media but did not divulge details of her contract, including her roles.
“This week, I started a new chapter in my career. I appreciate everyone who has been following up on my journey, cheering me up and praying for me,” Barang’a said in a statement released on Wednesday, July 5.
Barang’a joined TV47 in 2020 as an education journalist tasked with reporting on health and children.
She quit the channel three years later on Thursday, June 29, and appreciated the media house for shaping her career.
"It is an emotional day leaving a company that received me warmly when I was going through a rough patch in my life," she stated in her farewell speech.
The journalist made her name while working as an education and children's affairs reporter at Nation Media Group. Her show ‘Learning Curve’ aired on NTV on Tuesdays at 9:00 PM.
Apart from working at NTV and TV47, Barang’a had short stints as an editor at Ukweli Video Productions and as a scriptwriter at the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology.
Her prowess in educational reporting, was showcased when she won the International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ) Early Childhood Development Reporting Contest.
She also joined the Mandela Washington Fellowship program, funded by the U.S. Department of State in 2017.
Barang'a is a co-founder of a nonprofit organization that provides stationery to needy learners from arid and semi-arid regions in Kenya.
The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) alumnus has over 13 years of experience.
