Veteran journalist Alex Chamwada has become a household name through popular TV programs produced by Chams Media such as Daring Abroad and The Chamwada Report which have been a huge success

But while most viewers are familiar with the onscreen talent including veteran reporter Alex Chamwada, little is known about the team who work behind the scenes tirelessly to produce the informative documentaries.

Videographer Isaya Bwabi, a Chams Media staff, On Tuesday, July 4 shared an inspiring story about how he rose from working as a security guard to being behind the lenses, travelling with Chamwada in their pursuit to tell the untold stories.

Bwabi who was working as a watchman in 2020-2021, harboured ambitions of becoming a photojournalist and videographer which pushed him to seek better opportunities.

As fate would have it, Bwabi's employer and Chamwada's production were housed in the same building, giving him a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that he did not waste.

Because of Chamwada's frequent travels, Bwabi was at first unable to reach him and ask for the chance to pursue his dream.

When he finally got wind that the former KTN Editor was around, he gathered courage and walked into his office for a one-on-one.

"Approaching Chamwada was not easy but I gathered courage and shared my dream with him," he stated.

Bwabi was determined to become a journalist but the school fees at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) deterred him.

"When I told him, he was not worried about the fees," Bwabi stated.

Chamwada agreed to sponsor his studies and extended his support through the Chams Media where he currently works. Bwabi is set to graduate in December 2023 with a Diploma in Journalism.

"I am not one to give up. I want my story to inspire others despite where they are now," the videographer added.

The videographer and editor was on Wednesday, July 5 praised by his colleague Collins Ogutu in a post on LinkedIn for his winning spirit.

"When I first met Isaya (Bwabi) about two years ago, he was working as a determined security guard manning the main gate into our Kilimani Court 1 offices in Nairobi. He was evidently new to the job but very courteous and outgoing. We interacted a few times, and each time we spoke, his confidence amazed me," Ogutu wrote.

Ogutu added that Bwabi's spirit is contagious in the office, instilling hope in others. He also praised him for sharing his skills through training.

Chamwada through his Chams Media is known for the Daring Abroad show which tells stories of Kenyans in the diaspora.
